My name is Wiebe Wakker. In 2016, back when even Europe had barely any charging stations, I set off in an electric car, without money, from the Netherlands to Australia. Along the way, I asked people through my website to offer me a meal, a place to sleep, or electricity for my car. That’s how I drove from plug to plug, through 33 countries and over 95,000 kilometers in three years. Not just to prove that electric driving is possible, but also to understand what sustainability really means.

My approach as a sustainability speaker

In my talks, I take the audience on an adventure. No dry data, but real stories: from meeting sheikhs in the UAE to getting stranded in the Australian Outback. Stories that don’t just inspire, they help people grasp the urgency of sustainability.

To be honest, I started my journey with a fairly opportunistic motivation: I wanted to travel the world for free. But along the way, my awareness grew. Through countless sustainable projects I visited, conversations with passionate people, and interviews about green innovations, I returned home a conscious global citizen with a sustainable mindset.

And that shift is needed, because it’s later than we think. The latest IPCC report makes it clear: we must act fast to avoid irreversible damage.

I show that sustainability isn’t about being perfect, it’s about taking steps. That it doesn’t have to be a limitation, but can actually unlock new opportunities. Most of all, I show that you can embrace sustainability without turning your entire life upside down. Small choices make a big difference, and it starts with awareness.
